“Now we have the tools to put parents in the driving seat when we are working on family’s goals. Coaching is a skill that helps you professionally and personally.”

Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.

I believe in the power of people to solve their own problems.
Sometimes all it takes is a coach to point them in the right direction.

This especially applies to our work as early childhood practitioners.

When we take a coach approach to Early Childhood Intervention, we are better able to equip parents with the skills they need to help their child practice and embed skills learnt in therapy.

This means better outcomes for families and more efficient use of therapy time in our resource constrained environment.

MEET YOUR COACH

Jacqui Snider | Foundation Coach Approach

Jacqui Snider

Communication & Connection Coach

Jacqui Snider has been an occupational therapist for more than 35 years. Working at all levels from clinician, team leader, state-wide advisor and owner of her own private practice.

She holds ICF Accredited Coach, Team Coach and Trainer certifications and has been training practitioners across Australia in private practice and not for profit organisations since 2014.

Like many practitioners, Jacqui used to believe she was coaching when in fact, she was not. She was doing far more telling than asking.

Her passion for helping others meant she often took sole responsibility for the solutions and outcomes of her intervention. Of course, this only increased her own stress levels, discouraged engagement in her clients and limited her chances of achieving success with their endeavours.

Once she realised the practitioner is not solely responsible for the solutions and outcomes of intervention – and that we have the power to either empower or disempower parents depending on the way we work, everything changed.

Taking a coach approach led to significantly better results with her clients.

Families became far more motivated and engaged with their intervention. They were better equipped and skilled to manage without her when therapy ended. And they felt good about their contribution to their child.

And that made Jacqui feel great!

She began using her coaching and communication skills with family and friends in a genuine and authentic way and discovered that those relationships were enhanced as well.

A simple way to build your coaching practice

The Foundation Coach Approach is a 2-month online coaching program that will help you become more effective at implementing best practice coaching in early childhood intervention so you can break through barriers in dealing with complex clients.

It offers…

  • 10 pre-recorded modules and a companion workbook packed with practical coaching strategies to shift your mindset to a more curious, coaching mindset.
  • Private 1-on-1 mentoring so you can learn new ways to improve your awareness and skills in parent coaching.
  • Small, supervised group sessions where you can apply your new skills using a coaching mindset.

The coach approach is best practice

Evidence has proven that using a coach approach is best practice for delivering great outcomes for families and children. The NDIS requires us to carry out intervention according to this best practice.

Families must be on board with this approach too – because we are measured by the progress they make towards their goals.

We can become more effective at helping parents build their capacity to help their child practice the skills we agree on by improving our own communication and connection skills.

Learn the right way

The problem is, learning through trial and error is time-consuming.

When we aren’t guided to learn the tried and tested way, we must continually unlearn and relearn.

Learning best practice the right way, from the start, makes it faster in the long run.

But it’s impossible to learn how to connect and communicate with others just by reading about it or through self-study.

With expert guidance

In a perfect world, we would know exactly what to do by having access to a toolkit of different ways to help get us unstuck…

And we would know how to do it by gaining a better understanding about why people react and behave the way they do – and by becoming more aware of how we might be impacting others.

This only happens under expert guidance.

If you want to experience greater satisfaction at work and enjoy more authentic relationships, you need best practice knowledge AND know-how.

The Foundation Coach Approach teaches you how to…

  • Discover your own unique strengths and strategies for motivating others
  • Use coaching to increase your confidence and competence in your role as practitioner
  • Improve your relationships at work by connecting and engaging with others
  • Avoid being overpowered by the emotions of others
  • Understand and apply adult learning principles to bring out the best in parents
  • Help clients progress faster by reframing false beliefs that keep them stuck
  • Quickly build trust by making parents feel truly heard and understood
  • Think clearly and ask powerful questions that will fast-track outcomes for families
  • Navigate the pitfalls of giving advice and bring families on board with your ideas
  • Acquire the skills that distinguish great practitioners from good ones
